The Procurement Technical Assistance Program is powerful because it connects businesses with the government.  The Defense Logistics Agency, part of the Department of Defense, funds the Procurement Technical Assistance Program to increase the number of suppliers capable of performing on government contracts.

About PTAC


Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTACs) serve as a resource for businesses pursuing and performing under contracts with the Department of Defense, other federal agencies, state and local governments and with government prime contractors.  Working under cooperative agreements with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and hosted by organizations such as universities and local chambers of commerce, the assistance provided by the PTACs is usually free of charge.


PTAC support to businesses includes registration in systems such as the System for Award Management (SAM), identification of contract opportunities, help in understanding requirements and in preparing and submitting bids. The PTACs have a local presence in 49 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and Guam. Certain PTACs also specialize in assistance to businesses located on reservations throughout the United States.


PTACs are the bridge between buyer and supplier, bringing to bear their knowledge of both government contracting and the capabilities of contractors to maximize fast, reliable service to our government with better quality and at lower costs.


All PTACs are staffed with counselors experienced in government contracting and provide a wide range of services including classes and seminars, individual counseling and easy access to bid opportunities, contract specifications, procurement histories, and other information necessary to successfully compete for government contracts.


Many PTAC counselors have backgrounds in government acquisitions and virtually all receive ongoing training to keep pace with continually evolving acquisitions procedures and policies. The Association of Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (APTAC) provides a network that allows any PTAC counselor almost instant access to the expertise and experience of over 500 colleagues, as well as real-time information from government agencies regarding new requirements and initiatives.
